National Beach Lifeguard Qualification
The National Beach Lifeguard Qualification operated in Cornwall by the Training Centre is a professional qualification backed by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS). It allows successful trainees to work as lifeguards on British beaches and is valid in many other countries worldwide. As well as working as a beach lifeguard, the qualification is necessary to work as a surf instructor at BSA surf schools and is seen as a stepping stone to other careers in outdoor pursuits, rescue management and emergency services. With almost ten years professional experience, The Training Centre is THE place to train as a beach lifeguard in Cornwall or the UK.
What are the entry requirements?
Trainees must be physically fit and able to swim 400 metres in under
eight minutes.
Who is this course aimed at?
People who want to work as beach lifeguards, surf instructors, outdoor
pursuits instructors or embark on careers in rescue and emergency care.
What will I be doing on the course?
Successful students will have to demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities
in the following core competencies:
- Lifeguard Theory
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- First Aid
- Pool Skills
- Open Water Skills
How do I study the course?
The course takes place at The Training Centre at Lusty Glaze Beach in
Newquay, Cornwall. Trainees can opt for a standard six day or an intensive
four day course, dependent of experience and capabilities.
What can I do after the course?
The NBLQ allows you to work as a lifeguard on beaches in Britain and
is valid in many countries worldwide. It is also a stepping stone onto
other courses and careers in rescue and emergency management.
